Southbound Interstate 57 in Chicago was closed for several hours after a pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred near milepost 355 at approximately 4:41 a.m.

While details were not immediately available, a pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and traffic was diverted off the highway at 111 th Street in the South Side neighborhood, police said.

No further information was available, and the roadway has since reopened.
