BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — Sunday marks three years since two officers were killed in the line of duty in Bristol.

Lt. Dustin DeMonte and Sgt. Alex Hamzy were shot and killed after being ambushed outside a home on Redstone Hill Road on Oct. 12, 2022.

The 35-year-old shooter fired over 80 rounds at the officers, according to the Connecticut Office of the Inspector General’s preliminary report. DeMonte and Hamzy died of multiple gunshots, according to the office of the chief medical examiner. The shooter was shot and killed by Officer Alex Iurato.

In the years since the tragedy, the Bristol Police Department has installed a permanent memorial for the fallen officers.
