CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WITN) - Cape Hatteras National Seashore advises caution for the public by avoiding area beaches and erosion hotspots.

They say flooding caused by ocean overwash and water seeping through dune structures will make travel in the area extremely hazardous into the afternoon.

The seashore warns visitors to avoid traveling near erosion hotspots, including:

—Northern portions of Hatteras Island, south of the Basnight Bridge and up to the Pea Island Visitor Center

—Most side streets and Old Highway 12, north of the roundabout in Rodanthe

—Northern portions of Buxton, including Old Lighthouse Road

—The stretch between Frisco and Hatteras Village

Additional closures and hazards:

—Highway 12 on Ocracoke is closed from the Seashore’s pony pens to the north

—Off-road vehic
