The first nor’easter of the fall began to make its presence known Sunday on Long Island, with forecasters saying the region is facing significant coastal flooding and gusty winds through Monday.
Rain began to fall by Sunday afternoon and was forecast to continue through Monday, said Jay Engle, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Upton.
"We're looking for 1 to 3 inches," Engle said, with "the highest amount out east." Suffolk County is expected to get 2 to 3 inches; in Nassau the total rainfall will be closer to 1.5 to 2 inches.
