NORWICH, Conn. (WFSB) - Norwich Public Utilities is responding to a leaking water main on Newton Street that has disrupted service for approximately 100 customers.

The utility company said water service will remain disrupted for the affected customers while repairs are underway.

Newton Street is closed between New London Turnpike and East Avenue to allow crews safe access to the repair site. Officials are asking drivers to use alternate routes.

The utility company said it will provide updates about the incident, including a projected timeline for service restoration, in the coming hours.
