QUINCY (WGEM) - The Quincy Fire Department launched a program aimed at securing hazardous properties.

Abandoned houses in Quincy have caused many problems for the city, aesthetically and also with safety. That’s what prompted the Quincy Fire Department to unveil a new program.

“Our guys go around every Monday and they just take inventory on these abandoned properties,” said Quincy Deputy Fire Chief Michael Dade.

The program is a weekly inspection by the fire department to check the overall standing of the property and the fire potential.

“Young people can get in, vagrants can get in and things like that. Obviously that’s a concern,” Dade said.

Residents living near the properties say the department has their full support.
