A Republican member of the House passionately called on his Speaker to change course in a CNN interview on Sunday.
Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) gave an interview with CNN's Manu Raju, who asked the lawmaker, "What do you say to Speaker Johnson, who says there is no reason for the House to come back into session?"
Kiley said there are "a lot of reasons" for the House to come back into session.
"We were supposed to be in session the last two weeks," he continued, noting that the House still has everyday business to take care of despite the shutdown.
In reality, he added, the fact that there's a federal shutdown is "all the more reason" to be there, so that they can resolve it.
Raju promoted the interview on social media, writing, "GOP Rep. Kevin Kiley breaks with the speaker’s strategy of keeping House closed and not negotiating with Ds."
"And says Grijalva should be sworn in," Raju added, quoting Kiley as saying, “There’s a duly elected member of Congress from that district, and she should be sworn in. I don’t know why this is an issue."
