Penn State said Associate Head Coach Terry Smith will temporarily serve as head coach of the Nittany Lions following its decision to fire James Franklin on Sunday.
Smith entered his 12th season as the team's defensive recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach, and his fifth as associate coach, before Sunday's announcement. Advertisement
He is originally from Aliquippa and later graduated from Gateway School District in Monroeville.
He then went on to graduate from Penn State in 1991 with a degree in Business Management and was a three-year starter at wide receiver.
Penn State's website says Smith still "dots the Penn State record books, ranking tied for 12th in career receiving touchdowns (15), 16th in career receiving yardage (1,825) and 18th in career
