The Sacramento Kings have been dealt an early setback, announcing that forward Keegan Murray will be sidelined for at least four-to-six weeks with a thumb injury.

An MRI revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left thumb, an injury that will require immediate surgery.

The 25-year-old was hurt during Friday’s pre-season game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The injury will keep the team’s promising forward off the court for a significant period with the regular season quickly approaching.

Without Murray, the Kings will have to quickly adjust their starting lineup and rotation.

Murray is entering his fourth season in the NBA. He averaged 12.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season for Sacramento, and is heading into the final season of his rookie contract.
