NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - We've been monitoring a spot in the Atlantic that is now seeing upped chances of tropical development over the next 48-hours.

The National Hurricane Center says that "an area of low pressure located west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms" as environmental conditions look to be conducive for "some development of this system during the next few days."

The NHC forecasts that a tropical depression could form in the early or middle part of this week as the system moves to the west-northwest or northwest up to 20-mph through the central tropical Atlantic.

Formation chances over the next 48-hours has been upped to 40% while the next 7-days remains at 50% for now.
