One woman has been taken to hospital in critical condition after an overnight shooting at a home in Surrey in the early-morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 12.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating whether the incident – which happened around 2:42 a.m. at a home in the 13000 block of 103A Avenue – is connected to extortion.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, police issued an advisory that they had closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 17 at Tannery Road to investigate reports of shots fired.

Shortly after 7:40 a.m., an SPS press release noted that officers arrived to find BCEHS paramedics administering "life-saving medical intervention" to a woman inside the home who had been shot. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, police say.
