The Hungry For Laughs Comedy Tour will help fill food banks in each of the 10 communities it rolls through.

One of the headliners is Penticton comedian Alex Mackenzie, who’s well-aware of how it feels to have an empty stomach. He recently completed a 14-day fast, for the fifth year in a row.

The first three days are the hardest, Mackenzie says. The fast gets easier around day-five and his brain stops feeling so foggy. But around the 10-day point it gets hard again.

“Your brain starts tricking you at that point,” he said. He remembers thinking to himself, “Nobody’s making you do this; it’s not like your family’s being held hostage.”

Some mornings, he would wake up with a craving for food and wander over to the pantry before remembering he was in the middle of a fast.
