PEORIA HEIGHTS ( 25News Now ) - How long do you think you could hold a beer stein out in front of you? State Steinholding champions can do it for over ten minutes.

The contestants hold one-liter steins perpendicular to their chests. Filled with beer, the stein weighs about 5 1/2 pounds. The last person still holding up their stein wins. All that’s required for beginners in the sport is a love of beer and a competitive spirit.

“You get to take the stein home, and you get to drink the beer in it. If you enjoy drinking beer, and you enjoy a little bit of the German culture, come out and see us. Compete in one of the events, who knows, it might just be your day,” said Mike Barnes, a competition judge.
