Former West Ham defender Julian Dicks has quit as manager of non-league Heybridge Swifts following a row over budget cuts.

Dicks had been in charge of the eighth tier side since last year.

Dicks returned to the Swifts for a third spell as manager in May 2024.

However, he announced his exit following their 1-1 draw with Mildenhall Town on Saturday.

The 57-year-old departs with the club 16th in the Isthmian League North Division.

Explaining his decision, Dicks said: "I decided to leave Heybridge on Saturday night after I was told that the already lower budget was being cut again.

"This, amongst other issues, and certain people at the club, has led me to make this decision.

"I believe the players and the fans deserve more. All the best for the season."
