Willie Turral, the owner of Willie's Bar and Grill, described the scene as “mayhem” after hearing what sounded like machine gun fire outside the location around 1 a.m. Sunday.

People were rushing inside to take cover. There were bodies on the ground, and CPR was being performed on victims in the parking lot, Terrell said.

The event, part of a weekend series of alumni gatherings, was for Battery Creek High School. It had drawn a large crowd, filling both the bar and its parking lot.

One of those killed was a security officer Turral knew personally.
