BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Close to 300 people went for a walk to raise awareness for mental health struggles and prevent suicide Saturday in Bloomington.
The annual Out of Darkness walk raised roughly $20,000 that will go towards suicide prevention research and educational resources. The event is also a place for people who have been affected by suicide to find comfort from each other.
“It’s so comforting. You look around and you realize that there is hope, other people go through this, there is a path forward, and you are not alone. You are supported, and there are people that want to help you,” said Angela Cummings, the executive director for the Illinois chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention .
