MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It's the first weekend the National Guard is deployed in Memphis, joining more than a dozen federal agents hoping to fight crime in the city.

But even with the Memphis Safe Task Force and troops on the ground, it was still a violent weekend in the popular downtown entertainment district.

Memphis police said there's been plenty of activity on Beale Street over the past 24 hours.

MPD responded to large disturbances and violent crimes in downtown Memphis, including a robbery and multiple fights.

According to MPD, just after 4:00 a.m., a group of six to eight men assaulted and robbed four women on Beale Street, taking cash and the keys to a 2022 Dodge Charger, which was later stolen.

This happened in the area of Handy Park.
