MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis leader who’s served his greater and global community for decades received a prestigious honor this weekend.

Father Jim Cassidy , staff member at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Minneapolis, has received the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

According to the church , Cassidy was recognized for “his lifetime of work in the community as well as his 25 years of social justice and empowerment work in South Africa.”

In 2000, Cassidy founded Arm in Arm in Africa to help improve the lives of all people in post-apartheid South Africa. The organization supports local partnerships to ensure greater access to food, health care and education throughout the country.
