OLEAN, N.Y. — The Olean Police Department used drone technology to rescue two kayakers in distress last week.

The incident happened on the night of Oct. 4, after police received a call just before 8 p.m., the City of Olean Police Department said in a recent Facebook post .

Police and fire personnel deployed a drone to search the area, which quickly located two of the kayakers in the Allegheny River. That left one kayaker unaccounted for, so a search of the woods began.

After the final person was located, a resident then provided a ride for the lost kayaker and an officer to emergency medical services.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff's deputies and New York State Police personnel assisted with the search and rescue.
