A woman waiting in a bus shelter was killed in Regina on Sunday after a freight truck plowed into it, Regina Police Service (RPS) said.

RPS said officers were called to the intersection of Dewdney Avenue and Elphinstone Street around 12 p.m. on Oct, 12 after they received a report of a vehicle colliding with a person waiting at a bus stop.

Police said their investigation found a freight truck left the road, hitting a light post and the bus shelter.

The 19-year-old woman waiting in the shelter was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A section of Dewdney Avenue was closed for several hours while Regina Police Service collision investigators were on scene but the road was re-opened to all traffic in the late afternoon.
