PROSPECT, Ky. —

Returning for its 11th year, Chunkin’ Pumpkins is back for Captain’s Quarters Pumpkinfest.

Chunkin’ Pumpkins is an annual tradition to raise money for metastatic breast cancer research.

During the event, pumpkins are loaded into two trebuchets and catapulted over 100 yards into the Ohio River.

Spectators donate money to sponsor a pumpkin being launched into the river. There are floating targets throughout the river, and if a pumpkin hits the target, the sponsor receives a gift certificate from a local restaurant.

In its history, the event has raised over $150,000. The proceeds of the event have been donated to local organizations, Twisted Pink and Hope Scarves.
