HILO, Hawaii (Island News) – A Na’alehu man was arrested following a violent crime spree that occurred in Volcano on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to numerous calls regarding a reckless driver that was traveling Hilo-bound on Hwy 11 within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, at approximately 4:43 p.m.
Callers told police that a large white Dodge pickup truck was driving recklessly, forcing oncoming vehicles off the roadway and causing several traffic collisions.
As officers tried to locate the vehicle, a 62-year-old woman called police and reported that she had been carjacked at gunpoint near Hwy 11 and Luna Ikena Road in Volcano. The suspect, a 31-year-old Na’alehu man, had reportedly left his white pickup truck in the roadway and left the area in the
