DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A shooting occurred in Dixie County Saturday night that left a deputy and the alleged suspect injured, per a Saturday night press release from the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office provided an update Sunday on the deputy who was shot. “Deputy Cody Pope is continuing to recover and is expected to make a full recovery following yesterday’s shooting,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to deputies, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued Christopher Thomas Van Ness, 54, a capital felony warrant for attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer. Van Ness is in the custody of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and is currently hospitalized.
