LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Greater Lansing community gathered at Grace United Methodist Church on Sunday for the area’s 49th Annual Crop Hunger Walk.

The goal of the event is to raise funds to help those facing hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster. And with the holidays just around the corner, volunteers want to make sure everyone has a plate this season.

“We are here today as a community to say no to hunger, to poverty and to injustice,” said Co-Coordinator Tracy Placeway.

Leta Guild was a teacher in Lansing for 30 years. So, she’s seen food insecurity affect kids firsthand.

“Lansing has a lot of people who are hungry... by walking for crop or rocking for crop, we can raise money that stays in the community that will help provide food for the people who are in need,” said Guil
