A Thanksgiving Miracle: More than 150 donated turkeys save annual turkey drive

An outstanding display of support saved the annual Community Spirit Turkey Drive, after more than 150 donations came within one hour of its supposed cancellation on Sunday.

Founder of the annual turkey drive, Gar Gar, said the drive was originally planned to be cancelled earlier in the day after a lack of donations.

“We decided to cancel the Community Spirit Turkey Drive because we only received eight (turkeys), and within a couple of minutes, we saw an outpour of support from the community, and it is still unbelievable to see the amount of community coming together,” Gar said.

Gar said every part of Calgary stepped up to save the event, which showcases the best parts of the city over the long weekend.
