Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security Tony Burke has issued a grim warning to Australians after hackers released the data of 5.7 million Qantas customers on the dark web.
Notorious hackers Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters claimed to have accessed and stolen personal information from 39 major companies who stored data with software giant Salesforce, which was targeted between April 2024 and September 2025.
Among the 39 companies were Qantas, Toyota, Ikea, Disney, HBO Max and McDonald’s.
The details compromised in the July Qantas attack included names, phone numbers, addresses, emails, birthdays, gender, frequent flyer numbers, status tiers and points balances.
No credit card details, personal financial information or passport details were accessed in the breach.
