District 2 changed its format for the Class 3A football playoffs. Instead of eight teams qualifying like last season, only four will make the playoffs.
The change was made on the district’s website on Sunday. Unlike last year, the District 2 Class 3A champion will enter the PIAA Class 3A state playoffs a week earlier. Therefore, District 2 had to eliminate the quarterfinal round.
Until Sunday, District 2 had eight teams qualifying for the district playoffs in Class 3A. The Eastern Conference, which gives teams a chance at an 11th game if they don’t make district playoffs, also had District 2 qualifying eight teams in Class 3A.
