JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) — Grocery shoppers across Johnson County had the chance to help domestic violence survivors during a weekend fundraising drive that collected essential items for those fleeing dangerous situations.
The Domestic Violence Intervention Program held its annual Shop for Shelter fundraiser Saturday at select Hy-Vee and Fareway locations throughout the county. Volunteers handed shopping lists to customers entering the stores, encouraging them to purchase additional items for donation.
“Everything from diapers and formula to coffee and oil and spices and everything you would use in your home, we use in ours,” said Alta Medea with DVIP/RVAP Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Services.
