BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man's body was found in the middle of a neighborhood street in southwest Bakersfield Sunday and investigators are working to confirm what caused his death.

The Bakersfield Police Department said officers were called to an area of Camino Media east of Gosford Road just after 8 a.m. for person who was down unresponsive in the roadway.

The man was pronounced dead by medical responders at the scene. The man's identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office at a later time.

Police said preliminary evidence suggests a car may have struck the man, but no vehicle or driver were at the scene. No witnesses have come forward regarding the incident.
