The Jazz announced Sunday that forward Georges Niang, originally diagnosed with a fourth metatarsal stress reaction on September 27, is “progressing through rehab” and will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks’ time.

The injury was suffered during offseason training and conditioning, with an initial re-evaluation period of two weeks. This additional timeframe would put him at 4-5 weeks total.

Niang, initially routed from Atlanta to Boston in the Kristaps Porzingis trade, was shipped on to Utah as the Celtics continued maneuvering against the luxury tax. Having previously spent four years with the Jazz, Niang should provide a veteran presence as they continue to rebuild.
