Sunrise host Matt Shirvington has asked an EV expert if it is possible for half of all new cars sold to be electric by 2035, in an attempt to question the government’s proposed emissions target.
This is part of the government’s broader emissions plan and has been considered particularly ambitious, with EV purchases remaining flat since 2022, especially in regional Australia.
Australia’s geography exacerbates the issue with available chargers needed in cities and more geographically isolated places like the Sturt Highway, with just 2000 charging stations available nationwide.
