David Goode will compete in the VHSL Class 1 state golf tournament for the fourth straight year on Monday as the George Wythe senior looks to finally ascend to the top spot on the leaderboard.
“I’m feeling good,” Goode said. “It hasn’t really hit me yet that this is the last time I’ll tee it up for high school golf, but I’m sure I’ll be nervous at the first tee.”
Factoring in past results, Goode has to be considered the favorite in the event.
He placed fourth as a freshman in 2022 at the Olde Mill Golf Resort in Laurel Fork, two shots off the lead.
The following year at Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd County, Goode tied for second as he was three strokes back of the champion.
