Family members of a Bendigo student who was killed while on his way to school have remembered him as being quiet, calm, and full of potential.

Thom Hosking, 15, died on Friday morning after he was hit by a truck near the intersection of High Street and Myrtle Street in Golden Square.

In a statement released on Monday, his parents and sister remembered Thom as being the "glue" of their family, and a student who liked swimming, gaming with friends, and improving his fitness.

"Thom's death is a tragedy in the truest form," the statement said.

"He was 15. A boy entering manhood with so many of life's great moments about to open up for him.

"We are heartbroken that he will never get to realise that potential."
