U.S. President Donald Trump is set to arrive in Tel Aviv, Israel, early Monday morning. His visit comes as the U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas begins to take effect. Trump is expected to address the Knesset, Israel's parliament, during his trip.
Israeli officials announced on Sunday that the remaining hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023, are scheduled to return to Israel as part of a prisoner exchange. U.S. Vice President Vance stated that 20 of those hostages are believed to be alive.
The International Committee of the Red Cross reported that seven of the remaining hostages were received and are making their way back to Israel from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Air Force confirmed, "After 738 days in captivity, the IAF is ready to meet our hostages and bring them back home."
The Red Cross is facilitating the exchange between Hamas and Israel in northern Gaza. They announced that a multi-phase operation has begun to release and transfer hostages and detainees as part of the ceasefire agreement. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) indicated that the transfers would be staggered, with several hostages expected to be released during the initial transfer to the Red Cross.
Trump's Air Force One is scheduled to land at Ben Gurion Airport around 9:30 a.m. local time, which is 2:30 a.m. ET. Following his arrival, he will meet privately with families of the hostages held by Hamas. This meeting is set to take place shortly after his arrival, around 10 a.m. local time, before he addresses the Knesset at approximately 4 a.m. ET.
