Labor’s decision to extend the life of Woodside’s North West Shelf Gas project faces a new legal challenge in the Federal Court.

The gas facility’s lifespan was extended to 2070 last month after years of unease surrounding the project.

Labor gave the project the greenlight with 48 strict conditions designed to protect 60,000-year-old rock art in the Pilbara region.

The Australian Conservation Foundation, represented by Environmental Justice Australia, on Monday laid out its legal arguments against Mr Watt’s decision to extend the North West Shelf gas facility.

The foundation said Labor committed a “legal misstep” by factoring in economic benefits of the nearby Browse gas project when extending the Woodside facility.
