The UK high street has endured another challenging year as numerous major banks have shuttered dozens of branches. ‌

Santander has closed 76 outlets so far in 2025, including Scottish branches in the likes of Arbroath, Glasgow , Musselburgh and Peterhead, with an additional branch scheduled to shut permanently next month down south. ‌

Beyond the banks already closed this year, Santander has confirmed its Surrey Quays branch in London will cease operations on November 18. The extensive closures reflect shifting customer habits, as increasing numbers choose online or mobile app banking services. ‌

A further 18 outlets will also close, though their shutdown dates remain unconfirmed, reports the Express .
