Aspen project trains workforce to fight fires
A workforce development initiative aimed at reducing wildfire risk begins Monday, as Resilience Force and the Aspen Wildfire Foundation launch a weeklong vegetation-management demonstration in Aspen.
Running through Friday, the project brings Resilience Force’s national model for resilience training to the Roaring Fork Valley. Five local men will work alongside an experienced crew to learn wildfire-mitigation techniques — clearing brush, trimming low limbs and removing dead or downed trees around the Aspen Meadows property and nearby neighborhoods. The trainees, identified with help from the Aspen Police Department, are all seeking employment and housing stability.
