In the past, Oklahoma's approval rating for President Donald Trump was one of the highest in the nation. While the majority of Sooners still approve of the president, Gov. Kevin Stitt came out with a stark opposition to the president's efforts.
Stitt became the first republican governor to take a stance against Trump's deployment of National Guard troops across state lines. These efforts include deployments to Chicago and Portland, Oregon.
These deployments also come during the already 10-day government shutdown resulting from disagreements in the Senate over the GOP leaders' pitched budget and Democrats. News broke on Friday that the federal offices will be experiencing mass layoffs of federal workers during the government shutdown.
