Nearing three years since it first began to meet, OKC's Human Rights Commission now needs some new members as it wrestles with the limitations of its own capacity and advocacy.
The commission, approved in mid-2022 by the Oklahoma City Council, is in charge of investigating and addressing discrimination complaints regarding employment, housing and public accommodations. The previous Human Rights Commission had been abolished in 1996 after backlash toward the commission's work in advancing protections for LGBTQ+ residents .
