This year’s Foxfield Fall Races drew almost 4,000 spectators, and hundreds of younger attendees were on hand for hobby horse racing and cart rides powered by miniature horses.
Official attendance on Oct. 5 at racetrack outside Charlottesville was 3,952, according to Marian Fife, executive director of the races. That number does not include those ages 12 and younger, for whom tickets aren’t required. Foxfield officials estimate that more than 500 children attended this year’s fall races.
The fall races raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, which received a $50,000 race-day donation. The total amount is expected to increase as additional donations continue to arrive.
Another big winner was Cool Jet, an Irish steed who won the Mariann De Tejeda Memorial and its $
