As we approach the beginning of the third week of the government shutdown, more and more institutions are closing to the public. Among these is the world-renowned Smithsonian Institution. This ‘museum, education, and research complex’ attracts thousands of tourists every year. Unfortunately, however, it was unable to keep operating despite remaining open for the first days of the shutdown.
On Sunday, the Smithsonian Institution's 21 museums were officially closed to the public, causing chaos and confusion among the many visitors planning to explore one of these renowned sites.
The news was announced on the institution’s official website and social media platforms, yet many tourists found out about the closures on-site.
