BOSTON (WWLP) - Governor Maura Healey has declared October as "Massachusetts Cranberry Month" to celebrate the state's official berry and its significant impact on the local economy.

Massachusetts boasts the nation's longest history of cranberry cultivation, with approximately 11,500 acres of commercial cranberry bogs primarily located in Southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands.

Cranberries have been the top agricultural commodity in Massachusetts as of 2024, and support over 6,400 jobs and generate more than $1.7 billion in economic activity annually. Cranberry farming also plays a crucial role in environmental conservation, maintaining over 60,000 acres of open space across the state.
