A plane has crashed in a highway median in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, impacting traffic on Interstate 195, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The westbound side of the highway has been closed at exit 19, as well as the left lane heading east.

The closure is expected to last for several hours.

A damaged car was also seen in the media, but it wasn't immediately known if it was damaged in the plane crash or if it was involved in a separate accident.

State police said the crash involved a fixed-wing airplane and occurred around 8:15 a.m. They said the plane crashed on the median of I-195, resulting in a fire on the ground.
