October 13, 1923 - The Nebraska Cornhuskers Football team played the University of Oklahoma in Memorial Stadium on Oct. 13, 1923.

It was the first game in the new stadium after years of planning and fundraising.

It was named to commemorate the people who served in World War I and was constructed without any state funding. The Chancellor of the University broke ground in April 1923, opening just over six months later.
