The Tamil Nadu government on Monday (October 13) announced that the manufacturing license of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the company behind the contaminated cough syrup Coldrif, has been permanently revoked and the firm ordered to shut down.

"The drug manufacturing licence of Sresan Pharmaceuticals has been fully cancelled, and the company has been shut down. Orders have been issued for a comprehensive inspection of other drug manufacturing units across Tamil Nadu," the state government said in an official release.

According to the state's Drug Control Department, inspections revealed that the syrup contained 48.6% Diethylene Glycol (DEG) — a toxic chemical associated with the deaths of several children in Madhya Pradesh.
