A suspect is being questioned by police after a Dyer domestic dispute ended in the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old Gary man on Sunday.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 8600 block of Beall Street, according to a news release.

After a preliminary investigation, police said Lanell Riley was at the home to visit his child and the child’s mother, but a dispute erupted and Riley allegedly made threats against the woman’s mother. Police believe a 52-year-old man who owns the home and Riley were arguing in the street when the 35-year-old was shot, the release stated. A gun was found at the scene.

Riley was transported to Franciscan Hospital Dyer emergency room where he was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m., according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
