Around 13 million people have now reached State Pension age across the UK.

Many of those in retirement depend on the contributory benefit as their main source of income, providing essential financial support of up to £921 every four weeks for 4.1 million people through the New State Pension.

On top of that, around 8.8 million people who have retired are receiving up to £705.80 during the same period through the Basic State Pension, the Daily Record reports.

For those who are approaching retirement age, it is important to be aware of the various help that may be available.
