It's an emotional day in Windsor Locks. Hundreds of Connecticut family members are saying goodbye to their loved ones as they deploy with the Connecticut National Guard for a yearlong mission.

This is a big day for families and for the guardsmen and women alike. It's a pre-planned mission they've been training for, for years .

Seeing the Connecticut National Guard deploy is a familiar experience for one Connecticut family.

"I did 30 years in my service, and now our son is continuing the tradition,” said Dan Murphy, a veteran whose son is deploying. Murphy said he was in this exact spot 10 years ago. He's back now to send off his son.

"Very proud of him. He's a good kid, a good leader, and he will do very well,” M
