The new deputy mayor of the West of England region will get a hefty pay rise despite doing little extra work. The role will rotate between the leaders of the three councils in the area who will get paid an extra £19,300 for occasionally chairing meetings when the mayor is unavailable.
For the past few years the West of England Combined Authority has not had a deputy mayor. Former mayor Dan Norris chose not to have a deputy, but the new mayor Helen Godwin decided to bring back the role earlier this year.
