One of the Eagles’ weakest positions just got weaker in the most surprising of ways.
The team learned Monday morning that veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith has decided to retire for personal reasons.
That leaves the Eagles having to replace a starting Smith at edge rusher for the second time this season. Smith had replaced Nolan Smith as a starter in Week 4 after the latter Smith aggravated the triceps injury that he sustained during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX win in February.
Nolan Smith is expected to be out for at least two more games, leaving the Eagles with four healthy edge rushers: Jalyx Hunt , Josh Uche , Azeez Ojulari and Patrick Johnson.
Those four have combined for one sack this season, so the situation appears to be rather grim for the Eagles.
